Take Care of Your Lawn

With cold weather comes frequent morning frost on your lawn. You will notice some yellowing of the turf and possibly some browning on the tips of the grass blades. This is normal and the turf will recover nicely in the spring.

When there is frost on the lawn, it is recommended that you keep any traffic on the lawn to a minimum. Walking on frosted/frozen turf can damage the grass blades, especially on very young grass. However, in most cases, the grass will recover with warmer spring weather.

Protect Your Trees & Shrubs

During cold weather, some plants can be prone to cold weather injury. Frost and harsh winter winds can cause cracking and splitting of bark and branches. Needles and leaves of evergreen trees and shrubs can brown severely leaving an unsightly appearance. If the damage is not severe, the plants should recover with warmer spring temperatures. Symptoms of winter injury many times are not noticed until well into the summer. Be careful to protect delicate plants during periods of extreme cold temperatures.
