WHAT WE DID TODAY
Today your trees and shrubs received an application of horticultural oil. This treatment is designed to protect your plants against injury from insects that would overwinter on the plants or in the landscape. This is one of the most beneficial treatments that your trees and shrubs can receive because it helps to reduce insect populations in your landscape early before they can begin to do damage to your trees and shrubs. Because some plants are sensitive to horticultural oil sprays, some of the plants in your landscape may not have been included in today’s application.
For instance, plants such as Blue Rug’ Juniper; Alberta Spruce and Blue Spruce will lose their blue color when horticultural oils are applied.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THIS APPLICATION
There may be no immediately visible results from this application. This application is designed to smother adult insects as well as eggs of those insects. The application will dry on the plant usually within 30 minutes to one hour of the spraying. After this time, rain will not diminish the effectiveness of the treatment. There may be some slight visible residue from the spray where there are leaves on the plant.
COLD WEATHER ALERT
During cold weather, some plants can be prone to cold weather injury. Frost and harsh winter winds can cause cracking and splitting of bark and branches. Needles and leaves of evergreen trees and shrubs can brown severely leaving an unsightly appearance. If the damage is not severe, the plants should recover with warmer spring temperatures. Symptoms of winter injury many times are not noticed until well into the summer. Be careful to protect delicate plants during periods of extreme cold temperatures.

Your next regularly scheduled treatment will also include fertilizers and insect control to further enhance the health and vigor of your trees and shrubs.

Whenever you have concerns or suspect a problem between visits, please do not hesitate to call us. All full program customers (5 or 6 lawn or tree/shrub treatments per year) are entitled to one free service call up to 14 days after an application is made.
